Lord Voldemort (aka Tom Riddle) is the darkest wizard to ever live in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
History[]
Born to Tom Riddle Senior and Merope Riddle. Tom Riddle Senior was a muggle, and Merope a witch. This made Voldemort a Half-Blood. He was raised in an orphanage and, after a visit from Albus Dumbledore, attended Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry. He was a member of the Slytherin house. It is said that the hatred for his father is what turned him evil. While he was attending the school, he came across information concerning something called a Horcrux. He asked Professor Horace Slughorn about it and learned that he could split his soul into two with it and become invincible. To kill someone that had made a Horcrux, you would have to destroy the Horcrux first, using specific items. Tom asked Slughorn if he could split his soul into seven Horcruxes (seven being the magical number). Slughorn thought the idea was outrageous (considering you have to kill one person for every Horcrux you make, meaning Tom would have to kill seven people), but he said he supposed it was possible.

- The name Lord Voldemort comes from the letters of Tom Marvolo Riddle. If you scramble the letters to his name, you will get "I Am Lord Voldemort". This was shown in the second book and the second movie.
